The Grotowski Institute

The Grotowski Institute in Wrocław is a municipal cultural institution implementing artistic and research projects that respond to the challenges posed by Jerzy Grotowski’s creative practice and document and disseminate knowledge about his achievements. In the historic headquarters of the Laboratory Theatre in Przejście Żelaznicze in Wrocław’s Market Square there are: the Laboratory Theatre Space and Archives of the Grotowski Institute.

Another venue opened for residencies – Studio Na Grobli has been operating since April 2010 at in the former headquarters of the Wratislavia Rowing Association.

Brzezinka, the forest base of the Grotowski Institute, is a free-standing building located near the village of Brzezinka near Oleśnica (40 km outside Wrocław).

The Grotowski Institute is also a creative hub to numerous groups and individual artists focusing on artistic exploration and experiments in art.

Newest venue

The Grotowski Institute Performing Arts Center has been operating since April 2019, in the former building of the garrison bakery in Kępa Mieszczańska. For more details visit website: grotowski-institute.pl

Teatr ZAR

One of the groups that have been cooperating with the Institute for the longest time is Teatr ZAR, which, cultivating the ethos of teamwork, carries out artistic projects during long-term searches for sources, each time accompanied by the process of shaping a new theatrical language based on singing.

Teatr ZAR celebrates its XXth anniversary in 2023. The actors of Teatr ZAR, together with director Jarosław Fret, are the inspirers and driving forces behind the JustLAB project implemented at the Grotowski Institute.
